Galerie Babel
Hallo!
Mein Name ist Lutz H. Bastian-Wirtz und ich habe im Oktober 2025 die Galerie Babel eröffnet.
Seit mittlerweile 12 Jahren arbeite ich im Kunstmarkt und bewege mich in Galerien & Ateliers, auf Auktionen & Kunstmessen und durch Museen & private Kunstsammlungen. Als studierter Kunsthistoriker konnte ich an den Schnittstellen von Handel und Wissenschaft ein Auge für Qualität und Authentizität entwickeln.
Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass Kunst sowohl in der Gesellschaft wie auch im privaten Raum einen starken Einfluss haben kann. Kunstwerke sind oft ein Ort der Ruhe und der Selbstreflexion, sie können uns und unsere Umwelt aber auch immer wieder neu hinterfragen und dadurch neue Gedanken- und Handlungsräume eröffnen, an und in denen wir wachsen. Dabei können Inhalt & Ausdruck eines Kunstwerkes eine ebenso wichtige Rolle spielen wie Materialität oder der geschichtliche Kontext.
Ein sammelnder Mensch hat ein Gespür für diese gewisse Handlungsmacht der unbelebten Materie entwickelt und lässt einen Dialog zwischen den Dingen und sich selbst zu. Anders als in der Religion gibt es dabei keine Vorgaben, die Verhältnisse bleiben verhandelbar. Ein Kunstwerk zu besitzen und es in ein Zuhause einzufügen kann bedeuten, etwas von sich selbst nach außen zu kehren und dadurch, in der wiederholenden Betrachtung, auch über sich selbst lernen zu können. Dabei muss Nichts konkret benannt werden, es gibt kein Richtig oder Falsch und individuelle Interpretationen können sich verändern.
Die Galerie Babel möchte der Ort sein, an dem dieser Dialog beginnt.

My name is Lutz H. Bastian-Wirtz, and I opened Galerie Babel in October 2025.
I’ve been working in the art market for 12 years now, moving between galleries and studios, auctions and art fairs, and museums and private art collections. As an art historian, I’ve been able to develop an eye for quality and authenticity at the intersection of commerce and academia.
I am convinced that art can have a powerful influence both in society and in private life. Works of art are often a place of tranquility and self-reflection, but they can also prompt us to continually reexamine ourselves and our environment, thereby opening up new spaces for thought and action in which we can grow. In this context, the content and expression of a work of art can play just as important a role as its materiality or historical context.
A collector has developed a sense of this particular agency inherent in inanimate matter and allows for a dialogue between objects and themselves. Unlike in religion, there are no set rules here; the relationships remain open to interpretation. Owning a work of art and incorporating it into one’s home can mean revealing something of oneself to the outside world and, through repeated contemplation, learning about oneself in the process. Nothing needs to be specifically named; there is no right or wrong, and individual interpretations can change.
Galerie Babel aims to be the place where this dialogue and journey begins.
