„Manifold“, zu deutsch Mannigfaltigkeit, verweist auf die Vielartigkeit der gezeigten Werke und Sujets. Der kanadische Künstler Callan Ponsford (geb. 1994) thematisiert zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen ebenso wie den Blick nach innen und spielt dabei mit sich überschneidenden Erzählsträngen, Perspektiven und fantastisch anmutenden Licht- und Farbräumen. Gesellschaft, Sexualität, Emotion - nicht der Mensch steht im Fokus, sondern dessen Verhältnis zur Umwelt. Den Betrachtenden werden keine eindeutige Bildinhalte vorgegeben, es werden vielmehr Stimmungen bzw. Gefühle vermittelt.

“Manifold” refers to the diversity of the works and subjects on display. Canadian artist Callan Ponsford (born 1994) explores interpersonal relationships as well as introspection, playing with overlapping narrative strands, perspectives, and fantastical spaces of light and color. Society, sexuality, emotion - the focus is not on the individual, but on their relationship to their environment. Viewers are not presented with clear-cut narratives, but rather with moods and feelings.
I. dass sie einander nicht verstehen
Der Titel "dass sie einander nicht verstehen" bezieht sich direkt auf die kleine aber umso bekanntere Passage im Alten Testament (11.1-9), in der Gott die Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Sprachen 'bestraft', sie somit über die gesamte Welt verteilt und den Turmbau, das Streben zum Himmel, beendet. Was im Christentum negativ gedeutet wird, steckt objektiv betrachtet voller Potenzial: ein Streben nach etwas, das über die bloße menschliche Existenz hinausweist; eine Vielfalt von Sprachen & Ausdrucksformen, jedoch mit den gleichen Zielen.
Nicht zuletzt stellt der Titelsatz aus seinem eigentlichen Kontext gelöst auch auf das Heute bezogen die Frage: Warum? Oder vielmehr: Warum nicht?

The title “that they do not understand each other” refers directly to the small but well-known passage in the Old Testament (11:1-9) in which God “punishes” people with different languages, thus scattering them across the globe and putting an end to the construction of the tower, the quest to reach heaven. What is interpreted negatively in Christianity is, objectively speaking, full of potential: a striving for something that transcends mere human existence; a diversity of languages and forms of expression, but with the same goals.
Last but not least, taken out of its actual context, the title sentence also raises the question in relation to today: Why? Or rather: Why not?
